MEXICO CITY, May 21, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast-growing and technologically advanced companies, deeply committed to the modernization of the countries where they operate, founded by Ricardo Salinas, announced today that 11 Grupo Salinas companies were awarded with the distinction of “Socially Responsible Company” during the XII Latin American Meeting of Socially Responsible Companies (ESR) event themed "Contributions of CSR: Innovation, Impact, and Transformation" that was organized by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI).

Socially Responsible Company (SRC) is a recognition granted annually by CEMEFI and the Alliance for Corporate Social Responsibility (AliaRSE) to organizations that comply with standards established in the areas that govern corporate social responsibility.

Italika received the SRC distinction for the fifth consecutive year. For Tiendas Elektra and Banco Azteca it was the third occasion, while TV Azteca and Totalplay received their second distinction. Moreover, this year 6 additional Grupo Salinas companies —UPAX, Tiendas Neto, Promo Espacio, Totalsec, Grupo Dragón, and Atlas FC— received the SRC distinction for the first time.

Recently, Grupo Salinas joined the United Nations’ Global Compact, the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world. Consistent with its guidelines, the Group believes that in the modern world, companies have become institutions that —in addition to creating economic wealth— are a means to achieve social change, improve living standards, and mitigate environmental impacts.

Therefore, in addition to offering world-class products and services that improve the quality of life for millions of families, Grupo Salinas companies support diverse environmental actions, and promote the well-being of its more than 104,000 employees in Mexico, the United States, and Central and South America.

With these distinctions, Grupo Salinas reaffirms its strong commitment to initiatives that support the creation of economic, social and environmental value, and promote improved levels of wellbeing and progress in society.
