CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwire - Jul 16, 2012) - With the Olympic trials deciding the makeup of the majority of the U.S. Olympic team that will compete in London later this month, the National Association of Sports Commission (NASC) member cities are playing a major role in providing the venues for these trials.
Of the 19 Olympic Trials held to determine the U.S. teams in 26 participating sports, 17 of the 19 cities to play host to the Trials are members of the NASC, or 89 percent. Of the 31 events within the Trials, 29 of the 31 were held in NASC member cities, or 94 percent.
"The number of Trials being held in NASC-member cities shows how important and influential the NASC groups are in sports," said Don Schumacher, executive director of the NASC, the resource for the sports event industry. "It also shows that the NASC-member cities have the facilities, and the capabilities, to be the hosts to these major events."
Sites include Omaha for the USA Swimming Trials, San Jose for the USA Gymnastics Trials, Iowa City for USA Wrestling and Long Beach for USA Water Polo.
The NASC is the only association for sports event travel industry professionals and has grown from just 12 member organizations to nearly 600 members since its inception in 1992. The NASC delivers quality education, ample networking opportunities and exceptional event management and marketing know-how, which increases membership satisfaction as shown year after year in our member satisfaction survey.
