Face It Calgary!

Homeless-serving Agencies Collaborate on Public Awareness Campaign

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 10, 2012) - On World Homeless Day, non-profit agencies are launching the Face It Calgary! campaign to increase awareness of homelessness in Calgary and to give interested people an understanding of how they can help. The campaign challenges stereotypes of people experiencing homelessness, what leads to homelessness and the extent of the problem in Calgary.

Thought provoking statements are meant to catch the public's eye, and are followed up with current, local statistics on housing and homelessness. The campaign leverages outdoor signage, social media and volunteer-driven guerilla marketing and was developed by Fever Communications Inc.

While the Calgary Action Committee on Housing and Homelessness (CACHH) and the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) sponsored the campaign, dozens of non-profit agencies provided input and are participating. This is an example of how non-profit agencies are working together on the goals of the 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. This collaboration extends beyond this public awareness campaign. More than ever before, homeless-serving agencies are working together, sharing expertise and resources.

"No one of us has all the answers, but collectively, with all Calgarians, we can work towards effective solutions. Ultimately, our clients who are fighting or facing homelessness must come first," says Walter Twiddy, Chair of the CACHH.

"Calgary committed to the goal of ending homelessness and we are making significant progress through the 10 Year Plan," says Dr. John Rook, President and CEO of the CHF. "Ensuring Calgarians are aware and engaged is critical to help the thousands of people still without a home."
