Illinois-Based Crime Scene Clean Up Company Honors First Responders

AURORA, Ill., Jan. 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Aftermath Services, a national crime scene clean up and biohazard removal company, has chosen the Essex County Sheriff's Department to receive a $5000 grant towards the department's K-9 unit. The Essex County Sheriff's Office utilizes their K-9 unit to assist with bomb threats, drug arrests, tracking of criminal suspects and lost persons, as well as other civic duties across Essex County.

The Department was chosen to receive the annual grant through the Aftermath Cares program which is a social group for education and appreciation for law enforcement officials who protect communities across the country. Aftermath works alongside first responders to provide high quality biohazard remediation services to families and business owners in times of crisis.

"We work closely with law enforcement professionals and we witness many of the obstacles they must overcome in order to serve their communities, including cuts in funding for their departments," said Dana Todd, chief marketing officer of Aftermath. "This grant is a small step toward helping the Essex County Sheriff's Department keep their community safe and we look forward to hearing about the success of their new K-9 unit."

The grant was awarded to the Essex County Sheriff's Department at a Town Hall meeting on January 28, 2014. Aftermath Services Supervisor Justin Zito presented the check to Essex County Sheriff Armando B. Fontoura and Fairfield Police Chief Charles Voelker.

In 2011, Aftermath Cares awarded a similar grant to the Lower Allen Township Police Department. The Department used the funds to acquire a K-9 named Rocco, a mix of German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois. Between 2005 and 2008, the department saw a 100 percent increase in drug-related arrests, which signaled a need for another K-9 unit on the force.
