Dallas Chiropractor Now Using Essential Oils

DALLAS, Sept. 28, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dallas chiropractor Dr. Erin Stark Calaway, DC announced that Apex Wellness Center now carries and uses essential oils. She says that there has been a huge spike in demand for essential oils at the center and explains that many of her patients are using essential oils to replace chemical-based products in their lives. The chiropractor adds that essential oils can be used in several applications such as household cleaning solutions, insect repellents, cosmetics, soaps, pain relievers, infection control agents, and mood and concentration boosters. She stresses the importance of researching the different oils to understand the correct usage.

Dr. Erin says, "Essential oils from trees, herbs and flowers have been used around the world for thousands of years to promote health and healing and we're rediscovering them in modern-day healthcare. Our wellness center has gotten overwhelmingly positive feedback and high demand for essential oils. My staff and I are using them and we are excited about the research and what we've seen in practical application."

According to Dr. Erin, many scientific studies are getting positive results from using essential oils to improve health. She noted one study in which women who inhaled the scent of peppermint essential oil directly after a Cesarean section were able to overcome nausea better than those who did not. She points out another study showing the effectiveness of vetiver essential oil for helping children with ADHD focus better, and yet another showing eucalyptus oil's ability to relieve colds, bronchitis, and other upper respiratory ailments.

Dr. Erin explains that essential oils usually work best when the scents are inhaled from a diffuser, or when the oils are massaged into certain points on the skin. She says that the skin absorbs and processes the beneficial elements in the oils and disperses them throughout the body. Dr. Erin says because of the skin's ability to absorb either beneficial or toxic components, many of her patients have switched from store-bought products to essential oil recipes for soaps and cosmetics.

This switch has also extended to household cleaners and bug repellents, explains the Dallas chiropractor. She says that a mixture of water, vinegar, grapefruit seed extract and orange oil can be put into a sprayer and used as a disinfectant in the home or office. She also mentions that her patients have successfully used mixtures of oils like Eucalyptus citriodora, lavender, citronella, peppermint, and others to repel insects.

Dr. Erin urges people to learn about essential oils before applying them. "These oils are concentrated and have powerful medicinal compounds, so it's important to do your homework first, and talk with us for recipes and pointers on how to use them properly."

Apex Wellness Center in Dallas provides chiropractic care, massage therapy, essential oils, and other wellness services.
