SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 9, 2015) - Mesosphere, creators of the Datacenter Operating System (DCOS) for managing datacenter and cloud resources at scale, today announced the availability of the Mesosphere DCOS Community Edition on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Customers obtain the Community Edition software free of charge via the Mesosphere website and deploy on AWS (AWS infrastructure charges still apply).
The Mesosphere DCOS Community Edition allows developers and operators to abstract their Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances into a single pool of resources. For AWS's more than a million active customers on AWS, availability of DCOS provides an even more streamlined path to creating and deploying highly scalable applications -- as well as popular datacenter and big data services including HDFS, Kafka, Spark, and Hadoop -- all on the same cluster. Prominent companies already using Apache Mesos or the Mesosphere DCOS include Hubspot, Netflix and Yelp.

There are two editions of DCOS, the freely-available Community Edition offering the power of the Mesosphere DCOS at unlimited scale and the commercial-grade Enterprise Edition. The Enterprise Edition requires a paid license and adds advanced user-authentication and security, 24x7 support from Mesosphere, and is available for companies that want to run DCOS in their on-premises environment, in the cloud, or across a hybrid environment.

The Mesosphere DCOS Community Edition builds upon the popular distributed systems kernel, Apache Mesos, which provides primitives for resource management, container-based isolation, and scheduling across entire datacenters and cloud environments. DCOS is a datacenter-scale operating system that brings a dashboard, command line interface, and common services for launching and managing distributed frameworks, with the same efficiencies that laptops and mobile OSes manage native applications. DCOS is designed for enterprise production environments, and optimized for security, fault tolerance, high availability and server utilization that allow companies to run distributed applications at scale.

Users can also sign up for early access to beta versions for Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure that are expected to be generally available later in summer 2015.
