Lightbend Announces Acquisition of BoldRadius as Demand for Reactive Systems Grows

Acquisition of Expert Application Development, Training and Consulting Firm Specializing in Scala, Akka and Play Further Strengthens Lightbend's Enterprise Professional Services Offering

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 15, 2016) - Lightbend (formerly Typesafe), the company behind the Reactive Platform that includes Lagom, Play Framework, Akka, and Scala, today announced that it has agreed to purchase Reactive consulting firm BoldRadius Solutions and its more than 20 employees, and expects to finalize the acquisition in the coming weeks.

The acquisition further aligns with Lightbend's strategy of reducing the risk and accelerating the transition to microservice-based Reactive systems for traditional enterprises. In a recent Gartner report, the firm identifies that digital business imperatives are driving application leaders to modernize their application architecture and infrastructure strategies to support modern agility and scalability requirements. Applications must be uncompromisingly robust: reliable, available, scalable, secure and self-healing. The report added that application architecture and development teams will require new skills and education to master the risks and opportunities of the digital business application age.

"The digital business boom is creating an overwhelming demand from traditional enterprises and global system integrators for Reactive technologies and expertise," said Mark Brewer, CEO at Lightbend. "The acquisition of BoldRadius allows Lightbend to meet this demand with a well-formed team with real-world experience enabling Lightbend customers and partners."

Founded in 2011, BoldRadius has earned a reputation as a go-to consulting firm for enterprises looking to rapidly ramp development teams on Reactive technologies using Lean and Agile values and principles. Its unique immersive approach has enabled development teams to deliver highly reliable, scalable software in record time at industry leading and emerging companies like Hootsuite, Driver Group, and IGG

"Customers have consistently looked to BoldRadius to enable them to adopt and deploy the Lightbend Reactive Platform," said Mike Kelland, BoldRadius CEO and now Vice President of Services at Lightbend. "This acquisition allows our team to extend this enablement as part of the market leader in Reactive systems. We're excited to enable the enterprise to adopt microservices architectures and Fast Data while strengthening the Lightbend partner community."

"BoldRadius provided us with the expert training and direction we needed to ramp up on the Lightbend Reactive Platform," said Noel Pullen, Senior Director of Software Engineering at Hootsuite in a recent BoldRadius case study. "Their expert instructors challenged us, but were very thorough and hands-on, ensuring that our entire team came out feeling comfortable working with Scala and Akka."
