ActiveState Releases First Commercial Distribution of the Go Programming Language

New enterprise-grade distribution with support and indemnification for Golang pre-bundles microservices, big data packages

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ActiveState®, the open source languages company, today announced the release of its new commercial Go programming language distribution, ActiveGo™. This follows a 3-month beta of ActiveGo, based on the most recent version of Go (v1.8), and comes pre-bundled with some of the most popular Go packages and tools.

With the rising popularity of Golang, which is now #15 on the TIOBE Index (compared to #122 in May 2015), ActiveGo makes it easier for enterprises to adopt Go by providing cross-platform consistency, commercial support, security and license reviews, and legal indemnification.

Pre-bundled with over 70 essential packages, ActiveGo makes it easier for developers working in microservices, cloud integrations, and machine learning to focus on coding and not on language configuration. Featured Golang packages include the Go language bindings and installation documentation for TensorFlow, a popular machine learning library for deep learning with neural networks; connectors to MongoDB, Cassandra, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis, Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server; cloud and microservices packages to work with AWS, Google App Engine and Memcached; and testing and developer tools for error handling, debugging, code quality checking and logging.

"Go is a powerful language that features the best of what today’s web developers need -- fast development, fast runtime speed, and a small footprint with one binary deployment. And now, by starting to include machine learning integrations, we’ll be helping developers deploy machine learning algorithms into their applications," said Jeff Rouse, Director of Product Management, ActiveState. "We look forward to continuing to work with the Go community, and making it easy for developers to get enterprise approval for Go."

ActiveGo is now available on Linux, MacOS, and Windows in Community, Business and Enterprise Editions.

ActiveState welcomes feedback from the community to continue to shape ActiveGo. Developers can get started programming in ActiveGo by downloading the Free Community Edition here: http://www.activestate.com/activego.
