Here Comes the Sun - And Related Consumer Product Claims, According to Safeware

As people spend more time outside during the summer, incidents involving both indoor and outdoor consumer products heat up.

Dublin, Ohio, May 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With school coming to a close, adults taking time off work, and the weather becoming more enjoyable, many Americans are starting to spend more time outside. Safeware, a leading provider of product protection and extended warranty solutions, took a closer look at how the summer months can be a catalyst for unique damage to consumer products.

A recent Gallup Poll revealed that over 50% of Americans’ favorite way to spend their summer evenings is by doing something outside. Preferred activities included relaxing on a deck, taking a walk, and cooking out with friends and family. This increased activity can result in some unique situations for consumer products such as furniture, appliances, and technology.

While examining data trends in the summer months, Safeware’s claim study revealed some especially interesting cases. One customer in Jackson, Tennessee was enjoying a night out on their patio, playing with the family dog. When the dog wandered off to the edge of the yard, the owner could see it playing with a small black figure. To their horror, that figure turned out to be a skunk! Startled by the canine, the skunk sprayed the dog who in turn ran inside, promptly rubbing the scent all over the family’s favorite couch. Due to the extent of the damage, the couch had to be replaced.

On another sunny day, a customer in Providence, Rhode Island decided to work outside on her patio. She left her laptop on the patio table to go inside to grab a snack. While she was inside, she heard an extremely loud crash as the umbrella attached to her table collapsed, shattering the glass table-top. As she ran outside to assess the damage, she found that not only her table was broken, but her laptop had suffered a fall cracking the screen in the process.

“Unfortunately, many consumers are unaware of the damage that can occur both in and out of the home from spending more time outdoors,” says Safeware’s Chief Executive Officer, Bryan Schutjer. “At Safeware we are proud to offer protection plans for both indoor and outdoor furniture, appliances, and technology so that consumers can continue to spend time outside in the warmer months with peace-of-mind.”

Offering comprehensive protection for consumer products both indoors and outdoors is just one of the numerous ways that Safeware has kept in-touch with consumer needs and adapted accordingly. By choosing to extend their protection plans to their outdoor living areas, customers can spend time outside and relax during these pleasant summer months.
