Susan Klein & Company Combines Operations With Pondel/Wilkinson Group

BOSTON, Mass., April 15, 1999 (PRIMEZONE) -- Susan Klein & Company today announced it will combine its operations with Pondel/Wilkinson Group, a national corporate and investor relations firm based in Los Angeles, to form Pondel/Wilkinson Klein in New England. Susan Klein has been named to the post of managing director.

"Before starting her own firm in Boston in 1994, Susan Klein was a senior executive on our Los Angeles staff for seven years," said Roger S. Pondel, president and chief executive officer of Pondel/Wilkinson Group. "She has built a strong client base and an excellent reputation throughout the New England market. We are delighted to be joining forces with her again, which will enable us to expand our presence in the Northeast and allow Susan to leverage our infrastructure and resources to provide full-service client support."

Pondel added that Monroe B. Scharff, one of the deans of the investor relations profession, and currently president of Kennebunkport, Maine-based Monroe B. Scharff & Company, will also serve as a senior counselor to Pondel/Wilkinson Klein.

"Monty, too, has a longstanding association with Pondel/Wilkinson Group," Pondel said. "In the 1970s and '80s when his firm was based in New York, he frequently recruited our organization for special assignments. This affiliation will extend his access to Pondel/Wilkinson's resources as well."

Klein, 42, founded her firm in 1994, after serving briefly as vice president of corporate communications for Waltham, Mass.-based Molten Metal Technology, Inc. From 1987 to 1993, she was with Pondel/Wilkinson Group in Los Angeles. Earlier, she specialized in financial and high technology public relations with the Los Angeles office of Manning, Selvage & Lee. Before entering the public relations field, Klein was a correspondent with Newsweek and several California daily newspapers. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a master's degree in journalism, also from Berkeley. Klein is a member of the board of directors of the Boston chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute, and has been accredited by the Public Relations Society of America.
