Nokia receives CM Corporate Networking Award 2000 for WAP


Nokia has received in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the CM Corporate Networking Award 2000 in the category Most Innovative Technology, Editor's Choice for its WAP Technology. CM Corporate is the biweekly magazine for the ICT industry in Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxemburg and is published by VNU Business Publications.

According to Fred van der Molen, Chief Editor of CM Corporate, quoted from the jury report: " In only a few years this company has developed into a giant in the ICT industry. Other companies as Microsoft, IBM and Oracle are knocking on the door to co-operate with them. Now we are on the verge of Mobile Internet, this company is again the trendsetter. We are talking about WAP, we are talking about Nokia. WAP is the breakthrough technology which enables mobile internet. Nokia is not only the first company who introduced a WAP telephone, the Nokia 7110, but has also introduced the WAP gateway for the mobile networks and the Corporate WAP server, including additional tools to build applications (the developer's toolkit)".

WAP is an open global standard for communication between a mobile handset and the internet or other computer applications. WAP based technolgy enables the design of advanced, interactive and real-time mobile services, such as mobile banking or internet-based news services, which can be used in digital mobile phones or other mobile devices.
