The Commonwealth of the Bahamas Awards Contract for Northrop Grumman Air Traffic Management System


NASSAU, Bahamas, Nov. 28, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Minister of Aviation of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas has awarded a contract to Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector (ES3) for an air traffic control (ATC) system at Nassau International Airport in this capital city. Contract terms were not disclosed.

The system configuration includes Northrop Grumman's ASR-9 primary radar co-mounted with a monopulse secondary surveillance radar and an upgraded automated airspace management system. Initial operational capability for the system is expected in August 2001.

"The installation of this ATC system in the Bahamas will enhance flight safety and avoid delays for all arriving and departing passengers," said Donald Wilhelm, Northrop Grumman's vice president-Airspace Management Systems.

A world leader in ATC systems, Northrop Grumman has designed, developed and produced a total of 134 ASR-9 radars for the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Defense. An additional 18 systems have been supplied to various international customers.

The company's Baltimore-based ES3 supplies a broad range of customer-tailored ATC systems to the U.S. and more than 20 other countries.
