Polkomtel Acquires UMTS License in Poland


DENMARK, Dec. 20, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Today, Polkomtel, the Polish mobile operator partly owned by Tele Danmark, acquired a UMTS license for the Polish market.

The price was EUR 650m. EUR 260m must be paid in 2001, the remaining amount will be paid in installments until 2022.

Tele Danmark is a Danish-based European communication solutions provider organized as five main business units; Communication Solutions, Mobile, Internet, Cable TV and Directories. Tele Danmark is the principal provider of communications services in Denmark and holds significant interests in a range of communications companies across Northern and Continental Europe. Tele Danmark A/S was privatized in 1994. Today SBC Communications owns 41.6% of the shares and the remainder are held by individual and institutional shareowners all over the world.
