Nokia meets the need for speed in 3G network deliveries

Nokia has further underlined its credibility for delivering 3G networks after selecting the first Key Subcontractors from its substantial service supplier base. By working with key subcontractors in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Nokia can not only provide the fastest time to market for 3G systems, but also one of the strongest integration capabilities in the industry today.

As speed is critical in the era of 3G Nokia is also ready to ramp up its WCDMA 3G network delivery capacity globally. With a world-class supplier network in place combined with one of the largest base of subcontractors of its kind, Nokia is ideally placed for the fastest turnkey implementation of 3G and GSM networks.

The chosen key subcontractors are large enough to supply Nokia with a high capacity of skilled personnel, ensured by Nokia planned dedicated training programs. Nokia Networks has already announced the selection of four internationally recognized companies ABB, Bovis Lend Lease, MKI and Wireless Facilities Inc. as its main partners for turnkey implementation of 3G and GSM networks in the Europe, Middle East and Africa areas.

The key subcontractors include Skanska Telecom Networks, Sweden, Flextronics Network Services, Sweden, Böke und Walterfang GmbH, Germany, Pfleiderer AG, Germany, Landis Public Networks B.V., The Netherlands, Electro Zwijsen-Mourik B.V., The Netherlands, Electron Telecom B.V., The Netherlands, Spie Trindel, France, ETS, Italy, SITE, Italy, EXi telecoms, UK and MyCom, UK. They bring a complementary service portfolio to Nokia's existing subcontractor partners, and can rapidly establish subsidiaries in various countries.

"Having these networks of skilled, dedicated personnel in place, means the need for flexibility and reaction speed is met in preparing for fast take off of 3G networks. In a new country Nokia can provide trained implementation forces from the beginning of a project," said Matti Makkonen, Senior Vice President, Professional Services, Nokia Networks. "Speed and quality are the corner stones for fast delivery capability and Nokia is the only vendor to offer a synchronised supply and delivery chain for 3G customers."

As the world's largest turnkey GSM network supplier, Nokia has more than 10 years of experience implementing and supporting mobile networks and is committed to providing the first 3GPP standards compliant 3G networks with open interfaces during 2001.
