Carrier1's Southern European Ring Welcomes 3U as Bandwidth Customer

Carrier1 Supports 3U in its European Expansion

ZURICH, Switzerland, April 25, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Carrier1 (NeuerMarkt:CJN) (Nasdaq:CONE), a leading European provider of end-to-end Internet, voice, bandwidth, data center and access solutions for high volume users, and 3U Telecommunication AG (Neuer Markt:UUU), a German telecommunications service provider, today announced an agreement under which 3U will use Carrier1's bandwidth services on the Carrier1 Southern European Ring - particularly from Frankfurt to Milan via Zurich.

The 15-year agreement calls for 3U to use the capabilities of the Carrier1 network for Internet connectivity. 3U demonstrated its Voice-over-IP service for the first time at the recent CeBIT-Fair in Hannover.

"Carrier1 and 3U have developed a close partnership over the last two years, starting with 3U's use of Carrier1 voice services in Germany," said Neil Craven, EVP Bandwidth and Infrastructure Services. "Carrier1 is pleased to support 3U's European expansion in key Western European countries, which will include Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands - and soon, France and Italy. 3U already uses Carrier1's access services in France to interconnect with the national incumbent."
