HERNDON, Va., June 13, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has received a 30-month, $28.5 million contract to provide electronic benefit transfer (EBT) services to the State of Illinois Department of Human Services. This activity will be performed by Logicon Inc., the company's information technology (IT) sector, and is the first major IT services contract for Logicon with the state.
Beginning this month, Logicon will provide data processing, overall coordination and program management of EBT services for the State of Illinois' food stamp program and five cash assistance programs. Currently, the system handles approximately 450,000 cases per month across all assistance programs.
Under the EBT program, eligible Illinois residents receive a debit card that can be used to purchase groceries from more than 7,000 retailers across the state. They can also use the card to obtain cash benefits from either selected retailers or automated teller machines.
"The Illinois EBT program represents a major opportunity for Logicon," said Gregg Donley, president, Logicon Operations & Services. "First, we will apply expertise gained from our EBT program with the State of Texas Department of Human Services, the largest system of its type in the nation, to the Illinois program. Second, the Illinois contract represents a major expansion of our state and local IT business."
Logicon's work on the Illinois program will be performed at its data center in Austin, Texas, and is scheduled to run through October 2003.
