Free ISDN Turbo from Telenor

OSLO, Norway, June 20, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Telenor (Nasdaq:TELN) is now giving its ISDN customers up to twice as fast Internet surfing, for free. With the help of optimum data compression technology, customers will be able to experience twice-as-fast Internet functioning with ISDN. Telenor Internett has upgraded its access nodes across the whole of Norway, which means that all ISDN customers will be able to surf much faster on the Internet.

ISDN Turbo is being offered by Telenor Internett. This means that customers will not need to make any changes to their user equipment. Both residential and business customers with Internet access over ISDN GT will be able to take advantage of this service. Customers will find they can surf up to 100 per cent faster on the Internet than they can with ISDN today.

In order to offer ISDN Turbo, Telenor Internett compresses the amounts of data the customer takes from the Internet. The increase in speed the customer experiences will vary, depending on whether the information downloaded from the Internet has already been greatly compressed. E-mail and text files will normally be downloaded a great deal faster than previously, while the downloading of pictures, graphics and music files, which are already compressed, will not be quite as fast. However, what this means overall, is that the customer will experience a much faster Internet, even if the customer is not actually getting a greater bandwidth.

"Norway is one of the very first countries to introduce ISDN Turbo. The service is currently only available in Germany and Denmark. We are particularly delighted to be able to offer it to Norwegian Internet users at this early stage," said Knut Haakon Nilsen, President and CEO of Telenor Internett.
