WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., July 30, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Navigation Systems Division will provide its user data terminals for the U.K. Ministry of Defence's next-generation Bowman battlefield communications system under a teaming agreement with CDC Systems U.K. Ltd.
The potential value of the Northrop Grumman team's participation in the Bowman program is expected to exceed $180 million, depending on customer requirements and options.
"Our user data terminals will provide state-of-the-art processing and display capability with built-in technology refresh, and are field-proven to survive the operational environment of Bowman," said William J. Allison, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division.
"Our experience in delivering over 25,000 rugged computers for military applications, including our most recent successful fielding of rugged Pentium-based computers and displays for the U.S. Army's Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2) battlefield digitization program, will provide CDC and the U.K. Ministry of Defence with proven integrated product solutions."
More than 30,000 user data terminals and peripherals are planned as part of the Bowman program. Engineering and manufacturing work on the program will take place at Northrop Grumman facilities in San Diego and Woodland Hills, Calif., and in New Malden, England, and at teammate Alenia Marconi Systems Ltd. located in Hillend, Scotland.
Based in Woodland Hills, Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division specializes in the design and production of airborne avionics products and systems and is an industry leader in supplying and integrating rugged smart displays and computers for both military and commercial applications.
