Logicon TASC Wins 2001 Best Practices Award From Data Warehousing Institute

HERNDON, Va., Aug. 13, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Logicon TASC, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC), has been named a winner of The Data Warehousing Institute's (TDWI) 2001 Best Practices in Data Warehousing Awards Competition.

The company was honored in the Enterprise Data Warehouse category. This category describes a single companywide system that receives, maintains and reports data from core business information systems in a consistent, integrated and timely manner.

Logicon TASC, one of the world's premier providers of information management and systems engineering solutions for government and industry, joins the company of other 2001 winners such as eBay, the National Basketball Association, Best Buy Company and Federal Express.

TDWI is the leading provider of in-depth, high-quality education and training in the data warehousing and business intelligence industry. A panel of experts used four criteria -- impact, relevance, innovation and alignment -- to judge the nominations and select the winners.

"One thing that set us apart is the large number of users of our data warehouse," said Dick Dramstad, technical director of Logicon TASC's Information Infrastructure unit. "Most companies typically have a small group of analysts who access the system, where at Logicon TASC, we have more than 2,500 employees with access."

Another differentiating factor was how the Logicon TASC data warehouse was able to help increase cash flow and improve company accounts receivable results by one-third.

"Overall, the information delivery mechanism provided by the data warehouse and our myTASC portal has greatly enhanced information access and efficiency for project leaders, managers and our employees," said Mr. Dramstad.

"The competition for the Best Practices Awards was exceptionally strong this year," said Ellen Hobbs, general manager of TDWI. "As always, the quality of the applications was first-rate, but several nominations distinguished themselves as true best practices that others can learn from and utilize in their own data warehousing and business intelligence implementations."

Data warehousing encompasses a host of disciplines and technologies used to analyze corporate information, including data modeling, data migration and transformation, data quality, decision support, meta data management, business intelligence, data marts, online analytic processing, database management, data mining, knowledge discovery, closed loop decision support and various analytic applications.
