FFE Minerals, a FLS Group company, has recently received three orders totaling DKK 200 million or some EUR 27 million in its Pyro Technology business group. The orders will be shipped and the plants will be commissioned in 2002-03. They will not affect the company's projected earnings for 2001.
In Australia, FFE Minerals has received an order for calcination technology for Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL). FFE Minerals will provide technology, engineering and related services through the prime contractor Thiess Pty Limited. The project has two main goals - to increase operating efficiency of the calcining operations and to provide an environmental upgrade for QAL's Gladstone refinery. FFE Minerals will provide the design for three 4,500 tonnes per day calcination units which when commissioned will be the largest operating units in the global alumina industry. FFE Minerals will be working closely with Alcoa, its technology alliance partner during the execution of this contract. (Calcination is a heat-consuming process in which a chemical change of the raw material takes place).
In South Africa, FFE Minerals has received an order for the supply and installation of a preheater system for Kumba Resources as part of their smelter expansion project. FFE Minerals will supply a preheater upstream of an electric furnace to produce a ferro-titanium matte.
Finally, FFE Minerals has received an order for the design and supply of a large kiln system for an industrial mineral producer in the USA. Due to confidentiality provisions with the client, no specific details on the process technology nor the location can be disclosed.
These orders represent excellent opportunities and come at a significant time in the turnaround programme implemented for the Pyro Technology group of FFE Minerals.
