Northrop Grumman Wins $702 Million U.S. Army Contract for Software and Systems Engineering Support

HERNDON, Va., Nov. 9, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been selected by the U.S. Army to provide software and systems engineering support to the U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM), Fort Monmouth, N.J. The five base years of the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract have a potential value of $702 million to Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector.

In addition to Northrop Grumman, one other team was selected to compete for future awards under the ID/IQ contract. The contract also contains five one-year options that lift the program's potential value to a total of $1.45 billion over 10 years.

The work will be performed for CECOM's Software Engineering Center, which provides software and systems engineering support (SSES) for assigned mission-critical defense systems and associated programs throughout their life cycle. The SSES program will provide these services for development and maintenance of communications, command and control, intelligence, electronic warfare, sensors, and avionics systems and other organizational IT systems.

"This software engineering and development contract plays directly into one of our core strengths," said Kent Schneider, president, Defense Enterprise Solutions, Northrop Grumman Information Technology. "We have earned the Software Engineering Institute's CMM Level Five rating, and we are extremely excited by the opportunity to apply this unique capability in support of CECOM's Software Engineering Center."

CECOM's mission is to develop, acquire and sustain superior information technologies and integrated systems, enabling battlespace dominance for America's warfighters. Headquartered in Fort Monmouth, the Software Engineering Center supports more than 420 battlespace, management information and logistics systems.

Work on the SSES program will be performed in Fort Monmouth and Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Although specific headcount figures are not available at this time, Northrop Grumman Information Technology expects to significantly grow its presence in Fort Monmouth as a result of this contract win.
