Heijmans acquires Martin Wurzel in Germany

The transaction comprises the companies Martin Wurzel Baugesellschaft mbH, Martin Wurzel Garten- und Landschaftsbau GmbH and participations in the building materials industry. The company is active in road building, concrete work, hydraulic engineering, industrial construction demolition/recycling, general contracting, container leasing and horticulture and landscaping. Martin Wurzel is primarily active in the German state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, which borders on the Netherlands.

The company is expected to achieve a turnover of over EUR 27 million in 2001 and has 160 employees. Its profitability rating is above the Heijmans average. Despite faltering economic developments in Germany, the company has performed well in recent years. Its activities will be continued while maintaining the company's own identity and current management.
Martin Wurzel has a broad client portfolio that includes a significant number of regular clients. Martin Wurzel numbers among the very few contractors in the region that meets all certifications and qualifications and was recently granted DIN and ISO 9001 certifications and holds the highest German qualification in hydraulic engineering.

The takeover of Martin Wurzel fits into Heijmans' strategy, which provides for shares abroad to increase turnover by means of the 'spread out' theory (the takeover of smaller, soundly profitably companies in neighbouring countries). The activities abroad are primarily focused on activities in Belgium and Germany coordinated from a strong position in the Netherlands.
Martin Wurzel could function as a bridgehead for further expansion of Heijmans' activities in the German market. After the intended acquisition, there will be close cooperation with Heijmans Bau GmbH, Heijmans' operating company in Germany.
