Carrier1 Builds First Combined City Ethernet/IP Transit Service in Amsterdam

Capcave Launching Customer

AMSTERDAM,The Netherlands, Nov. 12, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Carrier1 (Neuer Markt:CJN) (Nasdaq:CONE), one of Europe's top suppliers of large-scale, end-to-end voice, data and Internet services, today announced the launch of its first combined City Ethernet / IP Transit service on behalf of Amsterdam-based Capcave. The new service will provide virtual LAN (vLAN) ethernet access to Carrier1's Internet service as well as to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) using an advanced city-ethernet solution.

Capcave is a leading new media fulfillment company in the Netherlands. The company specializes in new media concepts and delivers all needed elements, from design to audio/video applications to hosting. This Carrier1 service is intended to improve significantly the speed and quality of content distribution.

"Launching this new service enables Carrier1 to expand greatly the number of access points available for its international services in Amsterdam," said Marc Gauw, Managing Director of Carrier1 Netherlands. "It also gives Carrier1 access to new revenue streams in the Netherlands - from City Ethernet services - in addition to its revenue from existing core services such as IP Transit. All of this was accomplished in record time - and at low cost - by utilizing our existing metro fiber ring infrastructure and technology. It's a win-win for all involved."

"We have selected Carrier1 because they were able to provide this service quickly and efficiently," said Rob van Someren, Managing Director of Capcave. "It will help us save on capital and operating expenditures by eliminating the need for an additional router. Therefore, it will also benefit our customer base."
