Nokia launches new mobile positioning systems at the Nokia Mobile Internet Conference in Barcelona

At the Nokia Mobile Internet Conference in Barcelona, Spain, Nokia has launched the mPosition for WCDMA and the Enabling Mobile Location Center -- reinforcing the company's commitment to mobile location services, now and in the future.

Nokia mPosition for WCDMA
The Nokia mPosition for WCDMA offers a cost-effective, fast and smooth evolution path from the current mPosition for GSM solution, enabling operators to introduce new value-added 3G services based on the subscriber's location.

The Nokia mPosition for WCDMA is part of the Nokia mPosition solution - a complete end-to-end solution with intelligent applications, multiple location-detection methods, location middleware and mobile terminals. With the mPosition, operators can offer their customers personal relevant services such as location messaging, friends finder and traffic reports. Also, emergency services will be supported by the Nokia mPosition Solution.

The Nokia mPosition solution is both scalable and flexible, provides early market access and a secure growth path from 2G to 3G with maximum reuse of existing network elements. This offers operators a remarkable improvement in payback time of up to 30% compared to separate location-detection technologies in 2G and 3G networks.

The Nokia mPosition for WCDMA supports various 3GPP standardized location methods such as Cell ID based (SAI+RTT), OTDOA (Observed Time Difference of Arrival) and Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS).

Nokia Enabling Mobile Location Center
In Barcelona, Nokia also introduces the Enabling Mobile Location Center (EMLC), a key component of Nokia's mPosition solution that allow mobile operators to offer enhanced mobile location services to their subscribers. The EMLC plays a central role in these services by processing information about a subscriber's location and providing this information to application service providers (ASPs) while protecting the subscriber's privacy.

The Nokia EMLC enhances privacy and security functionalities for end-users as well as enables Mobile Operators to control their service offering within the mobile network.
