U.S. Navy Awards Northrop Grumman $15.7 Million Inertial Navigation Systems Contract

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Dec. 10, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Navigation Systems Division has been awarded a $15.7 million contract to provide 106 LN-92 aircraft inertial navigation systems for the U.S. Navy.

The LN-92 inertial navigation system provides a self-contained source of aircraft position, velocity, acceleration, heading and attitude. The Navigation Systems Division will supply its LN-92 inertial navigation unit and mounts for the Navy's F/A-18E/F, E-2C and S-3 aircraft. The LN-92 utilizes the latest gyroscopic technology to accomplish aircraft mission objectives.

"Product performance has continued to be superb as noted by the F/A-18 community and other platforms upgrading to the LN-92," said John Fabrizio, navigation team lead from the Navy PMA 209 office. "A mean-time-between-failure of over 15,500 hours, significantly exceeding contract requirements, attests to the system's maturity and excellent product quality."

Assembly and testing of the inertial navigation systems will take place at the division's facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, with deliveries to be completed by October 2003. The contract contains options for an additional 166 inertial navigation systems.
