J. Roger Hirl, President and Chief Executive Officer, Occidental Chemical Corporation, Announces Planned Retirement


LOS ANGELES, Dec 13, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Mr. J. Roger Hirl, President and Chief Executive Officer of Occidental Chemical Corporation, has announced his plan to retire June 30, 2003 upon the completion of 20 years of service.

Mr. Hirl, who has led OxyChem for ten years, will step down as its President and Chief Executive Officer December 31, 2001. Until his retirement, Mr. Hirl will continue as an Executive Vice President of Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY).

Commenting on Mr. Hirl's plans, Occidental's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ray R. Irani said, "Occidental has been fortunate to have an executive of Roger Hirl's caliber lead its chemical business. During his tenure, OxyChem has become a key player in the chlorovinyls business, with a strong integrated position throughout the chain. His significant contributions have been very much appreciated."
