STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 1, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- AU-System is today launching a software package for terminal manufacturers called Mobile Suite. The aim of the new package is to offer the market a complete, integrated suite of programs for mobile terminals. The core of the package is the AU- System Mobile Internet Client, successor to the highly successful AUS WAP Browser, which the company has so far licensed to about 50 terminal manufacturers worldwide. The package can be tailor-made to suit individual requirements with modules for managing Java(tm) applications, MMS (multimedia messaging service) messages, synchronisation and a security module for encryption and digital signatures. All products included in the AU-System Mobile Suite are based on open standards, which means they can be integrated with software from other manufacturers.
"One important aspect of our new, complete offering is that it'll take manufacturers a lot less time to add new functions to their terminals. The fact that all products in the AU-System Mobile Suite are tested and produced so that they can be integrated with one another reduces both time and costs," comments Christer Bjork, business area manager at AU- System.
Mobile Suite will be continuously developed to add new functions, including support for e-mail and instant messaging. Mobile Suite is flexible and fully adaptable to manufactures' requirements regarding functionality, security and interface design. The software package can be integrated independently of terminal operating systems and is compatible with GSM, GPRS and 3G systems.
The AU-System Mobile Internet Client has built-in support for communication protocols for fixed Internet, previous versions of WAP and WAP 2.0, which was approved in January 2002. In addition to WAP services the browser can be used with i-mode(tm) and next-generation web services.
Mobile Suite will be on show at AU-System's stand (E70) during the 3GSM World Congress on 19-22 February in Cannes, France. Demonstrations will include using a Palm OS(r) mobile internet client on a Palm(tm) m505 to show how a single browser can manage markup languages for WAP 1.2.1, WAP 2.0 and i-mode(tm), as well as functions for sending MMS messages on two palmtop computers equipped with MMS clients for Pocket PC.
