LINKOPING, Sweden, Feb. 11, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Swedish information technology company Sectra has sold a new mobile rescue system to the Finnish network operator, Digita. The order, which in the first phase covers infrastructure, is an important key step into the market for rescue systems. The order value amounts to SEK 6 million.
Based on Sectra's mobile rescue system, Digita will provide alarm and warning information in real-time to the Finnish Rescue Services. The platform for the service is Sectra's mobile information terminal CitySurfer(r) and the service will have nationwide coverage in Finland.
"Sectra's DARC (Data Radio Channel) solution together with our existing FM network will be an extremely important and cost-efficient tool for the rescue services to reach their field staff at all hours and everywhere in Finland," says Ilari Anttila, Vice President of Network Solutions Digita Oy. "The reliability, security, and real-time performance of the system were key factors when we chose Sectra's solution," Ilari Anttila adds.
The new rescue system makes it possible to send everything from traditional text messages to maps, floor plans and drawings and any other graphic information that can facilitate rescue efforts. With this system, rescue work becomes more efficient, and rescue workers' safety will increase, since correct information about the site of an accident can be relayed wirelessly to every member of the rescue team.

Digita's operations Digita operates Finland's nationwide broadcast and transmission network for radio and television. The network includes 38 main stations, 168 substations and 40 link stations for program broadcasting. Digita also provides broadcasting for several commercial radio stations. The company's services are also used by several companies and other organizations that carry out electronic communications. Digita's network administration center maintains and supervises the operation and technical quality of the Finnish broadcast network for all broadcasting, 24 hours a day. Digita has 390 employees and net sales of approximately SEK 640 million.
Sectra's operations Sectra has its roots in Linkoping Technical University and is one of Sweden's fastest growing high-tech companies in the IT area. Since the mid-1980s, Sectra has successfully conducted development and sales of high-technology medical IT and telecommunications products. Today, the business includes products in medical systems, secure communication systems and wireless information systems.
Sectra's wireless information business is conducted in Sectra Wireless Technologies AB, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sectra AB.
Business is conducted in six countries with a total of 218 employees. Sales for the fiscal year May 2000-April 2001 reached SEK 292 million. Since March 1999, Sectra's shares have been quoted on the O list of the Stockholm Exchange.
