STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 04, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Skanska's U.S. subsidiary, Gottlieb Skanska, has been contracted to build a school in New York City. The contract is valued at U.S. $47.2 M, about SEK 495 M. The customer is the New York City School Construction Authority. This is the fourth project for this customer in recent years.

The new school will be constructed on the Queens College campus in Flushing, Queens. Construction will be substantially completed by August 2004 for occupancy the following month. The school will accommodate 534 students from kindergarten through grade eight.

The four-story, 9,200-sq.-m. (100,000-sq.-ft.) building will be constructed of masonry brick and precast concrete elements. The building's interior will feature glazed-block partitions and ceilings comprised of acoustic tile and sheet rock.

According to a report published January, 2002, in Building Design and Construction Magazine, Cahners economists report that education construction spending, private and public, in the U.S. market is predicted to total U.S. $ 67.5 billion this year, an increase of 6.4 percent compared with a year earlier. Skanska is the fifth largest construction services company in the U.S. educational sector, according to ENR magazine's most recent industry ranking.

New York based Gottlieb Skanska was acquired by Skanska in 1999. Gottlieb Skanska and Slattery Skanska are working together on several projects, including the renovation of three subway stations in New York City: Times Square, DeKalb Avenue and Lexington Avenue/53rd Street.

Slattery Skanska and Gottlieb Skanska are also cooperating in the construction of two power production plants on Long Island.
