Skanska Awarded Contract at Penn State University Valued at U.S. $33M--SEK 343 M


STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 05, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Skanska's U.S. subsidiary Barclay White Skanska has been awarded a construction management contract for the Life Sciences Building for Penn State University in State College, PA. The total project value is U.S. $33 million, or approximately SEK 343 million.

The new facility will help Penn State meet steadily rising student enrollment in the life sciences curriculum as well as providing more opportunities for University research.

The almost 14.000-sq. m. (152.000 sq. f.) building will house state-of the art classrooms and research laboratories, as well as offices, meeting and gathering spaces, and a 182-seat auditorium. The new building will be connected by enclosed pedestrian walkways to existing life sciences buildings and to University buildings and laboratories across the street. This walkway will be known as "The Gateway to the Sciences."

The project is scheduled to begin in June 2002 and will be completed in February 2004.

According to a report published in Building Design and Construction Magazine, Cahners economists report that Education construction spending, private and public, in the U.S. market is predicted to total U.S. $67.5 billion this year, an increase of 6.4 percent compared with a year earlier. Skanska is the fifth-largest construction services company in the U.S. educational sector, according to ENR magazine's most recent industry ranking. Recently Gottlieb Skanska was awarded an U.S. $47.2 million school project in New York.
