Chris Hernandez, formerly vice president for the Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program (MP-RTIP), will lead the company's new Air Force Surveillance and Battle Management Mission area IPT.

In addition to his new role as the IPT leader, Hernandez is also being promoted to vice president and deputy for Airborne Ground Surveillance and Battle Management (AGS&BM) Systems in Melbourne, Fla., one of three business areas of Integrated Systems. Reporting directly to Alan Doshier, sector vice president, AGS&BM, Hernandez will assist in managing all aspects of the business area.

As the leader for the sector-wide IPT, he will coordinate all Integrated Systems efforts for U.S. Air Force surveillance programs, including the Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle system; MP-RTIP, a common modular and scalable radar for integration on multiple U.S. aircraft platforms that will greatly enhance the Air Force's ability to detect, track and identify stationary and moving ground vehicles; the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System, the most advanced ground surveillance and battle management system in the world; the Affordable Moving Surface Target Engagement system, a technology that makes it possible to conduct multiple, near-simultaneous, precision attacks of the most mobile targets; Space-Based Radar; NATO Airborne Ground Surveillance; the Multi-Sensor Command and Control Aircraft and the Multi-Sensor Command and Control Constellation, future aircraft and battle management systems currently under development by the Air Force.

"Chris' technical knowledge and experience and his outstanding leadership abilities provide him with the professional background necessary to successfully direct the activities of this new IPT. Our customers will benefit from having this integrated approach to surveillance and battle management as we enhance our ability to exchange information and expertise among our three business areas and across the corporation," said Scott Seymour, corporate vice president and president, Integrated Systems.

Hernandez joined Northrop Grumman in 1987 as a project engineer and has served in a variety of management positions, including four years as vice president and chief engineer for the B-2 program. Before this assignment, he served as vice president, Special Programs, Air Combat Systems. From 1976 to 1987, he worked for Rockwell International Corporation on the development of NASA's Space Shuttle and other advanced space launch vehicle concepts.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Long Beach, in 1981 and a Master of Science degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan Fellows program in 1995.
