Mobile Phone Users Want Their Phones to Take Pictures

Poll Solicited by Global Mobile Community Offers Insight Into Consumer Desires

SAN DIEGO, May 8, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Is one picture worth a thousand words? Perhaps. In a recent poll solicited by the world's largest wireless community at www.sms.ac, registered members were asked what features they would most like to see added to their mobile phones. Two-thirds of the poll's respondents (67.8%) said they would be willing to pay up to $1 U.S. per picture for the ability to take photographs and transmit them to other wireless devices.

The poll, issued by wireless technology company SMS.ac, Inc. (www.sms.ac), attracted more than 10,000 respondents in a 24-hour survey of customer attitudes. SMS.ac is now host to the largest wireless community in the world, with more than 5 million unique registered users in over 220 countries that utilize the site's communication-focused wireless products and services.

"A worldwide wireless community of this magnitude can serve as a powerful tool for gauging consumer sentiments," said Michael Pousti, chairman and chief executive officer at SMS.ac. "The results of this poll are consistent with what we're hearing from our user base. We believe it clearly demonstrates consumer readiness for wireless multimedia services and 3G, so long as the multimedia is wrapped around personal communications."

SMS.ac's members have already added hundreds of thousands of photographs to enhance personalized profiles housed on the company's site. The creation of SMS.ac's proprietary core technology, MMSbox(tm), is designed to propagate images such as these across wireless devices around the world, in addition to CD-quality sound and full-motion video. MMSbox technology effectively enables cross-platform and cross-network interaction on a global scale between network operators, developers, consumers, the Internet and all wireless technologies.

SMS.ac polls its members daily on issues ranging from entertainment and communication preferences, to mobile phone functionality and frequency of SMS messages sent. To view SMS.ac's daily polls and results, visit www.sms.ac.
