The Goldman Sachs Foundation Awards $1 Million to The Posse Foundation to Help L.A. High School Seniors Reach College


LOS ANGELES, May 29, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- REMINDER --

The Posse Foundation, a national organization, announces the award of a three-year $1 million grant from The Goldman Sachs Foundation to open 'Posse Los Angeles,' Posse's first west coast site. The Posse Los Angeles launch is being held on May 29 at the Wilshire Grand Hotel from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Pacific time.

The partnership between The Posse Foundation and The Goldman Sachs Foundation will enable Los Angeles students to pursue an education at Posse Los Angeles' first university partner, the University of Wisconsin. The University of Wisconsin is one of The Posse Foundation's fifteen current university partners, which include: Bowdoin College, Brandeis University, Bryn Mawr College, Carleton University, Colby College, Denison University, DePauw University, Dickinson College, Hamilton College, Lafayette College, Middlebury College, Trinity College, Vanderbilt University and Wheaton College.

For thirteen years, The Posse Foundation has been identifying public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential. Posse scholars are placed in supportive multicultural teams of ten, and are awarded four-year, full-tuition, leadership scholarships. More than 530 urban youth from Boston, Chicago and New York City have been awarded $44 million in scholarships.

Posse scholars persist and graduate at a rate higher than 90%. The mission of The Goldman Sachs Foundation is to promote excellence and innovation in education, and to improve the academic performance and lifelong productivity of young people worldwide.
