Telelogic and Partners Propose New Foundation for OMG's Model Driven Architecture

MALMO, Sweden and IRVINE, Calif., June 26, 2002(PRIMEZONE) -- Telelogic (Stockholm Exchange: TLOG), the leading global provider of solutions for advanced systems and software development, today at the Object Management Group(TM) (OMG(TM)) technical meeting announced that it has, in conjunction with other members of the U2 Partners consortium, proposed a major revision to the Unified Modeling Language(TM) (UML(TM)) standard. The core technology submitted to the OMG is a UML Infrastructure Library that can be flexibly reused for UML 2.0 and other future OMG Model Driven Architecture(TM) (MDA) standards, such as the Meta Object Facility for repositories and the Common Warehouse Metamodel for data warehouses. The modeling library is designed to make MDA tools more efficient to implement and integrate with each other.

"The UML 2.0 Infrastructure Library proposal marks a major milestone in the evolution of Model Driven Architecture standards for vendors and users," said Cris Kobryn, chief technologist at Telelogic and co-chair of the UML Revision Task Force at the OMG. "This foundational modeling technology is just as essential to future MDA standards as the concrete infrastructure is to a skyscraper. Telelogic is committed to working with our UML 2.0 submission team and the OMG to produce precise MDA standards that are practical to implement, so they can be easily integrated into the advanced software development tools in our Tau(R) product family."

The U2 Partners proposal team consists of leading companies that played key roles in the definition of the original UML standard and its subsequent evolution. In addition to Telelogic, the consortium includes representatives from the following companies: Alcatel, Computer Associates, ENEA Business Systems, Ericsson, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, I- Logix, IONA, Kabira Technologies, Motorola, Oracle, Rational Software, SOFTEAM, Unisys and Webgain. The consortium is proposing UML 2.0 in several phases, and plans to complete its work in 2002.

"Telelogic is an industry leader and innovator in visual modeling languages and tools, and a long-term thought leader for UML, and we welcome its strong endorsement of the Model Driven Architecture," said Richard Soley, Chairman and CEO, Object Management Group. "With its vast industry expertise and experience and leadership position in defining UML, Telelogic continues to be a strategic contributor to UML and other MDA standards work."

"Telelogic is committed to bringing standards-based tools to market based on an open architecture. Consequently we are an active participant in many organizations like the OMG that are furthering the adoption of industry standards," said Anders Lidbeck, president and CEO of Telelogic. "As the only vendor to have in-depth experience with both UML and SDL, the Specification and Design Language, Telelogic has a competitive advantage in the model driven development tools market and is best positioned to deliver on the promise of the UML 2.0 standard."

Dozens of other companies have publicly announced support for MDA including HP, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Rational, IONA, and Borland. In addition, over 30 companies have products available that utilize the MDA methodology to effectively solve problems. To see a complete list, go to http://www.omg.org/mda/products_success.htm. About The OMG

With well-established standards covering software from design and development, through deployment and maintenance, and extending to evolution to future platforms, the Object Management Group (OMG) supports a full-lifecycle approach to enterprise integration which maximizes ROI, the key to successful IT. Based on the Model Driven Architecture (MDA), OMG's standards cover multiple operating systems, programming languages, middleware and networking infrastructures, and software development environments. OMG's Modeling standards, the basis for the MDA, include the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Common Warehouse Metamodel (CWM). CORBA, the Common Object Request Broker Architecture, is OMG's standard open platform with hundreds of millions of deployments running today. OMG's well-established CORBAservices and industry-specific standards are being re-issued under the MDA in many popular middleware environments. OMG domain (industry-specific) standards cover vertical markets including healthcare, telecommunications, biotechnology, transportation and a dozen other areas. The OMG is headquartered in Needham, MA, U.S.A., with a U.S. government representative in Washington, DC, and international marketing offices in Japan, the U.K., and Germany.

The Object Management Group is an international, open membership, not- for-profit computer industry specifications consortium. OMG member companies write, adopt, and maintain the organization's standards following a mature, open process. All current OMG specifications may be downloaded without charge from the organization's website, www.omg.org; the site also provides additional information about OMG and its activities.
