Semcon AB Receives New Order from Kockums AB

GOTEBORG, Sweden, July 4, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- At the end of last year Semcon signed a framework agreement with Kockums AB, which has resulted in extensive cooperation. Semcon's documentation of the refitting of HMS Galo is now complete and has been delivered to Kockums AB.

Semcon Teknikinformation has now received a new assignment that will run until November 2002 and which, coupled with a new parallel assignment, is worth a total of SEK 2.2 million.

Semcon Teknikinformation's work for HMS Galo was highly commended by staff at Kockums who appreciated that Semcon had carried out the job in a way that reduced the pressure on Kockums' project organization.

"The response from Kockums has been very positive. They have now awarded us a further multi-million kronor assignment," said Semcon's CEO, Hans Johansson.

"I think a good relationship between customer and supplier is important, something I have really witnessed with Semcon. I see a significant benefit in having the supplier working in-house or on-site, which makes it easier for both parties. Semcon has done a good job and we are very pleased with their achievements. They are always very committed and alert," said Peter Rehnstrom, manager at the ILS Department at Kockums AB.

The new assignment involves documenting the part-time modernization of HMS Carlskrona. The modernisation includes changing the vessel from being a minor vessel into being a command vessel that can be used in international peacekeeping missions.

"This has shown that the framework agreement has paid dividends. It is mutually beneficial for both sides. We enjoy working with businesses like Kockums, who are at the forefront in using state-of-the-art technology," added Johansson.

Semcon is the only external partner that is permitted to use Kockums' new documentation platform developed by Visbyserien. All documentation is presented to the user in digital format. For the Carlskrona this applies even in operational conditions.

"It is inspiring to continue working with a customer where there is potential for new assignments. Gaining access to the Kockums information system means that we will develop unique competence. Sharing this platform will give us a competitive advantage in future assignments for Kockums," explains Peter M Nilsson, site manager in Karlskrona.
