Skanska Obtains Construction Project for U.S. Army Worth USD 36 M, or SEK 336 M


STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 5, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Skanska's U.S. subsidiary Baugh Skanska has obtained the contract for the expansion of the U.S. Army base at Fort Lewis, Washington in the U.S. The contract is valued at USD 36 M - approximately SEK 336 M. The customer is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Seattle. The order has been included in order bookings for the second quarter of 2002.

The project covers new construction of barracks and training facilities for 300 soldiers, a battalion headquarters building and a soldier community building. The two and three-story buildings have a total floor area of 17,500 square meters. The contract also includes new roadways and parking areas totaling 74,000 square meters and landscaping for a troop training area and a park-like area of lawns and plantings totaling approximately 800,000 square meters.

Work is scheduled to start in the near future and to be completed within 660 days.

Established in 1917 as a World War I training facility, Fort Lewis received its name from Captain Merriweather Lewis, the "Northwest Passage" explorer. Fort Lewis currently covers 94,000 acres, and supports the population of 20,000 soldiers, and 4,900 Department of Army civilians. It is considered to be a premier training facility and one of the largest Army bases in the U.S.
