Neoware Expands Thin Client Product Line to Offer Next-Generation Products for IBM NetVista Thin Client Customers

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., July 31, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of software, services and solutions for the Appliance Computing market, today broadened its product portfolio with the release of the new, high performance Eon Professional Series and the introduction of the first product offering within the Eon Professional Series, the Eon Professional 4300.

The Eon Professional Series is Neoware's high-performance appliance family, designed for customers who require processing power for local applications, as well as high-resolution graphics. The Eon Professional 4300 is the first model in Neoware's Eon Professional Series and is targeted primarily as a next-generation product for IBM NetVista 2200 and 2800 thin client customers.

Engineered to meet customer demands for a powerful thin client that can run local applications, the Eon Professional Series also has the flexibility to access virtually any application on a server, provides easy connectivity to a wide variety of peripherals, and offers upgrade and expansion capabilities to maximize customer investment protection. With a rugged metal case and no fan or other moving parts, Eon Professional is perfect for customer, office, or harsh environments and gives users the option of a zero footprint device by being able to support a monitor. The Eon Professional comes equipped with a full complement of ports and expansion slots, including two serial ports, a parallel port, two USB ports, audio and a PCI/ISA slot for customization and future expansion. It can access virtually any Windows, UNIX, X Window, Internet, Java and mainframe application, and is managed by Neoware's award winning ezRemote Manager software.

The Eon Professional 4300 runs NeoLinux, an appliance version of the industry standard Red Hat Linux operating system that enables customers to add Linux applications locally for a variety of vertical markets. The Eon Professional Series is targeted primarily at IBM NetVista 2200 and 2800 thin client users who are seeking next-generation products that are compatible with their installed base of IBM thin clients. Neoware's NeoLinux operating system and ezRemote Manager software are available for Neoware thin client appliances and the IBM NetVista 2200 and 2800. This common software platform protects customer investments in their installed base by enabling them to upgrade their existing thin clients and deploy new Eon Professional thin client appliances that run and are managed with exactly the same software.

The Eon Professional Series complements Neoware's software strategy of offering continuous product enhancements and updates via downloadable software upgrades -- without changing hardware -- providing investment protection to customers with the most capable and feature-rich products.

"Neoware's unique, software-powered strategy lets us offer customers products and services to meet their growing needs," stated Michael Kantrowitz, Neoware's President and CEO. "The Eon Professional 4300 is an excellent platform to complement installed IBM NetVista 2200 and 2800 thin clients, as it allows customers to deploy new devices that are fully compatible with their installed base of products. Because of our unique software-focused business model, Neoware is able to protect customers' investments in their thin client hardware, while providing the latest capabilities via ongoing software upgrades."

The Eon Professional 4300 is available immediately throughout the world from Neoware and IBM, with prices starting at $689 US.
