Metso to Supply Pulp Bleaching System to Suzano Bahia Sul, Brazil

HELSINKI, Finland, Aug. 7, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Metso Paper will supply a new pulp bleaching system to the Brazilian pulp and paper producer, Suzano Bahia Sul. The bleaching system will be installed at the company's Suzano mill in the state of Sao Paulo. The new line is scheduled to start up in November 2003. The value of Metso Paper's delivery, together with local supplies, is over EUR 20 million.

The delivery includes the main process technology for the bleaching line and includes wash presses at all washing stages. The new line will replace the existing line in Suzano, and is designed for a daily capacity of 1,450 tonnes of fully bleached Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) pulp from eucalyptus. The raw material will come from the company's own eucalyptus plantations. The pulp will be used for fine paper, paper board and coated papers.

Suzano is one of the largest manufacturers of eucalyptus pulp and paper in Brazil and was the first company in the country to produce paper out of 100 % ECF pulp.

The order from Suzano is the third large order from South America to Metso Paper during a year and a half. New fiber line and pulp drying systems from Metso Paper are currently under construction at the VCP Jacarei mill in Brazil and at the Arauco Valdivia mill in Chile.
