NCC to Build Apartments in Torslanda, Gothenburg, for SEK 210 million

SOLNA, Sweden, Aug. 13, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- NCC has been commissioned by Goteborgs Stads Bostads AB to build 300 apartments at the former airport in Torslanda, Gothenburg. The assignment, which also includes landscaping work, is worth SEK 210 million.

According to plans for the area, the former Torslanda Airport will be developed into a garden city that features both housing and retail facilities. The garden city, named Amhult, will be built on a runway in the northwestern section of the airport.

The 300 rental apartments will be built in two-floor buildings. Nine different types of buildings will be constructed, each containing two to eight apartments.

The landscaping contract will involve preparing the area for the 300 apartments. The runways will be completely excavated and removed. The excavated asphalt will be crushed, recycled and reused in surfaces for new roads in the area.

The apartment buildings will be erected by autumn 2005.

"It is extremely gratifying that NCC has been entrusted with the first, strategically important assignment in the development of Torslanda Airport into a completely new urban district in Gothenburg," said Per-Ake Edling, Business Manager, NCC Construction Sweden, Western Region.
