The CCFA Hosts the 8th Annual `Sippin' by the River,' Sunday, September 22 Festival Pier at Penn's Landing

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 29, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Remember the bright sunshine, the cool waterfront breezes, and the delicious samples of dozens of beers, and a variety of tasty wines? It's that time of year again, the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) will host its eighth annual Sippin' by the River outdoor wine and beer festival on Sunday, September 22, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Festival Pier (Columbus Boulevard at Spring Garden Street) on Penn's Landing in Philadelphia.

World-famous wine and beers, tutored tastings by wine "ambassador" Phillip Silverstone, a special cooking demonstrations pavilion, gourmet cuisine from area restaurants, and live entertainment from the Cardiac All-Stars will highlight this festival benefiting CCFA. A new highlight to this year's event will be the Philadelphia Tavern Life pavilion, where visitors can experience the food, spirits and atmosphere of a local Tavern. Visitors also can experience a little taste of Germany in the Oktoberfest Pavilion, where they can sample German food and beers and enjoy German music.

The event will take place rain or shine. Samplers of wine and beer must be 21 years of age or older. Tickets cost $20 per person, if purchased in advance, or $25 on the day of the event. Those under 21 may attend but will not be permitted to sample. These individuals, including children, must pay full ticket price. Tickets may be purchased online NOW at www.sippinbytheriver.com. Beginning September 3, tickets may be purchased by phone at 215-922-2FUN. Tickets are limited and may sell out in advance.

Sippin' by the River provides an exclusive VIP area where attendees can enjoy the afternoon under a large tent. VIP admission entitles donors to enjoy a variety of gourmet foods, sample select wines and beers, and partake in tutored tastings by media wine personality John McNulty and beer expert Jim Anderson. The VIP beer-tutored tastings will take place from 2-2:45 p.m., while the VIP wine-tutored tastings will take place from 3:30-4:15 p.m. Tickets for the VIP tent are available for $150, or $1,000 for a table of 8, and must be purchased in advance. 215-922-2FUN or (2386.)

Proceeds from Sippin' by the River will benefit research, education and support programs for people suffering from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
