Metro International S.A.: Election of Chairman


BERTRANGE, Luxembourg, Aug. 30, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Metro International S.A. ("Metro"), the international newspaper group, today announced that Uriel Savir has been elected as acting Chairman by the Company's Board of Directors. This appointment follows the death last week of Metro's Chairman, Jan Hugo Stenbeck. The Board of Directors has simultaneously initiated a search for a Non-Executive candidate to assume the Chairmanship on a long-term basis.

Uriel Savir has been a Board Director of Metro International since 1999. Savir is the President of the Peres center for Peace in Tel Aviv in Israel, was the former Israeli Consul General to New York, and has served as Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel's Chief Peace Negotiator of the Oslo accords and as a member of the Israeli Parliament.
