Northrop Grumman Team Wins Contract Valued at Over $300 Million for U.S. Army's Land Information Warfare Activity

HERNDON, Va., Sept. 9, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- A team led by Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract to provide Information Operations (IO) technical and management support for the U.S. Army's Land Information Warfare Activity (LIWA). The contract is worth more than $300 million over five years and will bring approximately 220 jobs to Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector.

Northrop Grumman IT will provide professional services and engineering support for the U.S. Army's worldwide IO mission. This contract replaces six previous contracts with a consolidated team that can conduct all phases of IO support. These professional services include acquiring, protecting, managing and exploiting information for the benefit of combat operations. This effort will continue Northrop Grumman IT's support to the worldwide computer emergency response teams, the vulnerability assessment mission, and will add further assistance to field teams, and IO visualization development work.

"Protecting the Army's computer networks and supporting worldwide emergency response teams utilizes our core capabilities and expertise in information operations, intelligence and space," said Jim O'Neill, president, Northrop Grumman IT TASC. "We enjoy a long-term relationship with the U.S. Army and remain committed to providing it with our specialized services."

The global contract will reinforce LIWA's support of the Army units within Pacific Command, U.S. Forces, Korea, European Command, Southern Command, Central Command and the Continental United States.

"We will help LIWA provide robust information operations expertise to U.S. Army component forces on a global scale," said Dr. Larry Abella, Northrop Grumman IT TASC vice president and director, Strategic Security. "This capability is essential to protect and secure computer network systems internationally."

Work on the contract will be performed at a Northrop Grumman IT facility in northern Virginia.
