Northrop Grumman Names New Vice President for Infrared Countermeasures and Laser Systems


ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Sept. 9, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- (WITH PHOTO) Dr. Robert L. Del Boca has been named vice president of Infrared Countermeasures (IRCM) and Laser Systems for Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Electronic Systems sector. He previously served as director of the company's Laser Systems business unit in Apopka, Fla.

In his new position, Dr. Del Boca will be responsible for all program activities and business growth strategies related to the sector's IRCM and laser systems businesses. Northrop Grumman's IRCM programs include the AN/AAQ-24(V) NEMESIS Directional Infrared Countermeasures system, which is designed to protect large fixed-wing transports and small rotary-wing aircraft from the infrared missile threat. Northrop Grumman's Laser Systems business unit is one of the world's premier design and manufacturing facilities for lasers with military applications.

Dr. Del Boca joined the former Litton Industries, Inc., in 1986 when CLS Laser Systems, which he co-founded, was acquired by Litton. He became general manager of the facility with responsibility for the all business operations including engineering and several laser production lines. In 1995, Dr. Del Boca served as vice president of business development, and in 1997 was appointed vice president of engineering. In 1998, Dr. Del Boca was appointed president of the Laser Systems Division.

Dr. Del Boca has authored and presented numerous publications on laser and electro-optical applications. He holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from Fordham University and a doctorate in physics from the University of Connecticut. Dr. Del Boca continued his leadership and management education under the Litton Executive Education Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
