Neoware Extends Thin Client Appliance Family with Microsoft Windows XP and NT Embedded Offerings

Microsoft Windows XP Embedded for Eon Preferred and Professional Series; Windows NT Embedded for Eon Proven and Capio Series

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Sept. 10, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of software, services, and solutions for the Appliance Computing market and a Windows Embedded Partner, today announced it has released thin client appliances based on the Microsoft Windows XP Embedded operating system. Neoware's Windows XP Embedded-based offering includes two new products; the Eon Preferred 6000 and Eon Professional 6300, delivering enhanced expansion, peripheral support, and access to the latest versions of client software.

Based on the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system, Neoware's implementation of Windows XP Embedded-based appliances include Microsoft's RDP 5.1 to run applications from a Windows-based server with deep color depth, high display resolution, desktop resource redirection, and support for Microsoft .NET Framework. Additionally, Neoware's new software supports Citrix ICA 6.3 for connection to Citrix servers with strong performance and enhanced security, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 with plug-in and scripting support, Microsoft Media Player 8, Macromedia Flash, and Pericom's teemTALK terminal emulators for broad legacy systems connectivity.

"As a Windows Embedded Partner, Neoware Systems' Windows XP Embedded-based thin clients give enterprise customers powerful and easy-to-manage solutions," said Dave Pollon, lead product manager of the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. "Neoware's Eon Preferred 6000 and Eon Professional 6300, combined with its 'ez' technologies, deliver low-cost Windows Powered solutions that seamlessly integrate with the Windows server infrastructure and provide enterprise customers with key multimedia functionalities such as Web browsing and support for Microsoft Media Player 8, which Microsoft has delivered in Windows XP Embedded."

Similar to all other Eon family products, the Eon Preferred 6000 and Eon Professional 6300 complement Neoware's software strategy of offering continuous product enhancements and updates via downloadable software upgrades -- without replacing hardware. This unique strategy allows Neoware to focus all of its research and development on software, delivering greater software capabilities, keeping customers ahead today and into the future. As a result, Neoware products are flexible and can be upgraded in the field, protecting customer's investments and without needing to replace hardware when requirements change.

"Customers are looking to implement cost-effective thin client solutions with the most up-to-date technology that easily integrates with their existing network infrastructure," stated Howie Hunger, Neoware Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Business Development. "The release of Neoware's Microsoft Windows XP and NT Embedded products yet again reinforces our ability and commitment of providing products and services that meet and exceed our customers' ongoing requirements."

The Eon Preferred Series offers the best combination of features, functions, performance and price for thin client appliances. The Preferred Series offers customers maximum versatility and access to the latest software features and releases. The durable metal case and absence of a fan or other moving parts make the Eon Preferred Series reliable in harsh conditions and quiet in office environments. Additionally, the Eon Preferred Series gives users the option of a zero footprint device by its ability to support a monitor, and is equipped with a full complement of ports and expansion slots, including two serial ports, a parallel port, two USB ports, audio and a PCI/ISA slot. Based on Windows XP Embedded, the Eon Preferred 6000 is priced starting at $649.

The Eon Professional Series extends the capabilities of the Eon Preferred Series to include enhanced performance for customers who require enhanced processing power for more demanding local applications, as well as high-resolution graphics. Based on Windows XP Embedded, the Eon Professional 6300 is priced starting at $769.

All products running Neoware software, including Neoware's Windows XP Embedded-based thin client appliances, can be managed seamlessly using Neoware's ezRemote Manager Software for complete remote management of the appliances from a central location.

Neoware, a Microsoft Windows Embedded Partner (WEP), continues to work closely with Microsoft Corp. to engineer a variety of embedded operating systems. Neoware's Windows Powered thin client appliances, combined with its "ez Features" technologies, give customers a powerful and easy way to manage these cutting edge appliances. Neoware technologies include:

client software, and modify configurations modularly, without
having to replace a complete software image.

    user help desk support.

productivity by further "locking down" appliances to avoid
    unauthorized user changes.

powered appliances to be managed by ezRemote Manager and standard
systems management interface for products such as IBM's Tivoli and
    Computer Associates' Unicenter.

Neoware is also releasing two new Windows NT Embedded products, the Eon Proven 5100 and Capio 710. These new products complement Neoware's software strategy of offering continuous product enhancements and updates via downloadable software upgrades -- without changing hardware -- and are managed with ezRemote Manager.
