GOTEBORG, Sweden, Sept. 19, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Deliveries from Volvo's truck operations, which includes Volvo Trucks, Mack Trucks, Inc., and Renault Trucks, increased by 13% for the month of August, compared with the same month last year. On a year-to-date basis, deliveries amounted to 99,095 trucks, a decrease of 1% compared with the same period last year. In Europe, deliveries declined by 5 % while North America increased with 1% compared with the same period last year.
"As expected, deliveries in North America continues to be on a significant higher level than in the beginning of the year. This is a result of customers pre-buying trucks in advance of the new emission regulations coming in effect as of October 1. In Europe, demand for our trucks remains at a high level," said Volvo's CEO Leif Johansson.
On a 12-month rolling basis, total order intake for the truck brands was at the same level as last year, with Europe up 1% and North America down 10%.

Mack Trucks, Inc.
In response to the weak market conditions, Mack will take two non- production weeks at its Macungie, PA plant in October and also reduce its daily production rate at that facility, effective October 1.

The strong demand for the new Volvo FH and Volvo FM continues. The increased delivery volumes are starting to appear in the statistics concerning registration of new vehicles and, in market shares.
Significant orders for the new Volvo VN, launched in the U.S. last month, have been taken in the North American market.
