STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 23, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency will distribute 42 regional licences in Sweden for 3.5GHz and 10.5GHz at the end of the year. UpGrade Communication supplies the market with unique solutions and products for the wireless broadband network for 3.5GHz and 10.5GHz bands. UpGrade sees great potential for increased sales in Sweden for these products because of the success already seen in Norway, Finland and the Baltic states.
To meet the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency's distribution of regional licences, UpGrade will introduce products and systems for broadband radio, namely, Alvarion's BreezeACCESS and WALKair for data distribution on 3.5GHz and 10.5GHz.
BreezeACCESS XK is a 3.5GHz frequency-switching surface-covering broadband system which has been installed throughout the Nordic region over the past few years with a great deal of success in terms of sales and with satisfied customers. BreezeACCESS XL builds upon Alvarion's 3Mbps system and offers the opportunity of setting up a sector-based base station with a maximum 72Mbps for the distribution of data capacity to clients spread over a distance of up to 15kms.
BreezeACCESS OFDM is also a 3.5GHz system featuring the new OFDM modulation technology. Using BreezeACCESS OFDM, each client can receive up to 12Mbps connections from base stations, which can then distribute at 196Mbps. OFDM has advantages over current technology, such as improved penetration capability during "diffused free sight" using considerably improved algorithms for handling Multipath, and naturally improved throughput (over 3Mbps / MHz).
Alvarion's WALKair is available in two versions: WALKair 1000 and WALKair 3000.
WALKair 1000 is an ideal alternative for the larger "Point-to-Multipoint" solutions. This is an access system for operators or ISPs that targets its service at small or medium-sized companies (SMEs). WALKair 1000 has a distribution capacity of up to 256Mbps per cell using 28MHz broadband (512Mbps / 56MHz with dual polarization). A basic WALKair 1000 base station can connect up to 2048 terminals, each with up to 4Mbps "burstmode." WALKair 1000 is available in 3.5GHz, 10.5GHz and 26GHz frequencies.
WALKair 3000 is Alvarion's "Premium Point-to-Multipoint Broadband Wireless Access solution," which supplies up to 36Mbps fibre-equivalent connections. The maximum capacity for a fully extended WALKair 300 base-station is 2,304Gbps across 112MHz broadband. WALKair 3000 is available on a 26GHz frequency.
