Nordea has Repurchased 40 Million Shares to Date


STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 23, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Up to September 20, 2002, Nordea AB (publ) has repurchased 40,008,000 of its own shares. The shares were purchased at an average price of SEK 43.50.

Nordea will present its interim results for January-September on October 22, 2002 and is, according to stock market rules, prohibited from repurchasing shares during the 30 days prior to announcement.

Background

Following the authorisation from the Annual General Meeting on April 24, 2002, the Board of Directors of Nordea AB (publ) on June 19, 2002, decided to repurchase a maximum of 150 million of its own shares (equivalent to approximately 5% of the total number of shares in the company).

In April 2001, Nordea AB (publ) acquired 17 million of its own shares for the purpose of achieving a hedge regarding the company's incentive programme. This repurchase of own shares followed a separate resolution by the Board of Directors and does not form part of the current repurchase programme. The total holding in Nordea AB (publ) of own shares is 57,008,000. The total number of shares in the company is 2,985,071,177.
