Telelogic DOORS Adds Electronic Signature Capability

Digital Sign-off Supports FDA Requirements, Facilitates Business Processes

MALMO, Sweden, and IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 23, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Telelogic (Stockholm:TLOG), the leading global provider of solutions for advanced systems and software development, today announced support for electronic signatures in Telelogic DOORS(R), the market-leading requirements management tool.

The electronic signature feature in DOORS offers the unparalleled ability to record users' comments, status and signatures for the greatest control over document validation and authentication. By incorporating electronic signatures as part of DOORS' baseline capability, users can create a validated, time-stamped -- and locked -- record of their requirements documents, including a complete history of all changes and comments. DOORS is the first requirements management solution to offer electronic signatures.

"The electronic signature capability in DOORS is a major breakthrough that addresses an overwhelming business need," said Ingemar Ljungdahl, Telelogic's Chief Technology Officer. "Almost every mature organization has a formal process that requires sign-off in order to document approvals throughout the development lifecycle. The electronic signature capability in DOORS has far reaching implications for everything from initial requirements gathering and certification of test results, to change approvals, instrument validation and fulfillment of user acceptance criteria."

Electronic signatures allows companies to eliminate the time consuming, manual process of printing electronic documents, circulating them through the approval chain for sign-off, creating multiple copies for each signatory and then maintaining them in a paper file for the archives. Furthermore, with DOORS electronic signature capability, users can have complete confidence that document data remains unaltered once it is signed.

"The electronic signature capability is a strategic step forward in Telelogic's mission to help our customers reduce cost, increase quality and improve time-to-market," Ljungdahl said. "By incorporating electronic signature capability into DOORS, we have eliminated another manual, time consuming step in the development process and eliminated potential misunderstandings about what has been approved or validated -- and what has not."

Matt Light, Research Director at Gartner Inc., said, "The electronic signature capability offers tremendous value to organizations in every industry. The ability to sign off on documents and requirements data is a critical step in providing complete traceability and accountability, during a project lifecycle and beyond."

Telelogic DOORS is the industry's first requirements management solution, which offers the electronic signature technology.

"The electronic signature capability offers even more benefits to organizations that are faced with audits, whether it is by internal groups, by customers or by government and industry regulators, such as those in the medical, pharmaceutical or defense industries," Light added.

DOORS is one of the software solutions on the market, which supports the requirements of Federal Food and Drug Administration's Electronic Records and Signature regulations, which govern electronic record for the manufacture of medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Known as 21 CFR, Part 11, the regulations impose strict quality control and security requirements over electronic records, including document validation and archiving.

"Our customers tell us that the electronic signature capability is absolutely critical to the medical and pharmaceutical industry. Quality and validation is their business," said Paul Raymond, Vice President Product Management, Requirements Management Tools for Telelogic. "DOORS' electronic signature capability will help them improve quality and meet regulations."

The electronic signature capability aids development teams in every industry, by offering the ability to record and validate users' approval of requirement sets and changes. Collaboration between suppliers, customers and project sponsors is simplified, offering each party a single, authenticated electronic data source with a complete history of approvals, changes and progress.

DOORS 6.0 SR1 with electronic signature capability is available beginning September 23.
