Teleca and QUALCOMM to Integrate MMS and WAP on Chipsets for UMTS/GSM/GPRS Handsets

MALMO, Sweden, Oct. 16, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Teleca Mobile Technologies and QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:QCOM) today announced an agreement to work together to provide fully integrated and tested multimedia messaging service (MMS) and wireless application protocol (WAP) solutions for third generation (3G) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and GSM/GPRS handset manufacturers.

This cooperative effort will result in the integration of Teleca's AU Mobile Suite MMS and WAP solutions with QUALCOMM's Launchpad(TM) applications. QUALCOMM's MSM6200(TM) Mobile Station Modem (MSM(TM)) chipset and system software supporting the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) mode of WCDMA -- also known as UMTS -- as well as GSM and GPRS, will be the first to include Teleca's Browser functionality. The integrated and completely verified solution which will be available in the first half of calendar year 2003 will enable carriers to seamlessly deliver multimedia and messaging services across their networks to their subscriber customers.

"Our partnership with Teleca Mobile Technologies will optimize multimedia messaging applications for UMTS handset manufacturers, which will allow them to accelerate design cycles through our proven solution," said Johan Lodenius, senior vice president of marketing and product management for QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "Tight integration of multimedia functions into our UMTS/GSM/GPRS chipset solution will enable manufacturers to provide consumers with cost-effective, high-performance handsets, sending video, music and other multimedia attachments quickly and easily."

"Our partnership with QUALCOMM will provide a more complete offering to our mutual customers and will enable both Teleca and QUALCOMM to broaden their market reach," said Joakim Nydemark, president of Teleca Mobile Technologies. "Our integrated browser and messaging solutions will shorten time-to-market for Teleca's and QUALCOMM's customers, and provide them with industry-leading applications."
