SMS.ac Discusses U.S. Strategy at CTIA Conference

Domestic Demand for Wireless Data on the Rise

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 17, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- SMS.ac, Inc. chairman and chief executive officer Michael Pousti today addressed industry experts for the second time in as many days at CTIA, the largest conference in the U.S. associated with wireless data. Pousti says that while issues still exist that are inhibiting industry growth, increasing consumer demand for text messaging is reason for industry optimism.

"It is evident that an increasing number of U.S. consumers want and are willing to pay for SMS and MMS-related products and services," said Pousti. "But, domestic mobile carrier offerings are not yet meeting the high expectations of U.S. consumers and as a consequence, widespread adoption of text messaging here has not occurred.

"The consensus among CTIA attendees I spoke with is that U.S. carriers need to focus on two main areas -- improved cross-carrier messaging experiences for consumers and billing accessibility for third-party providers," continued Pousti. "These are contentions SMS.ac has aired since our inception. Open billing solutions, and open communities are the means to generating the tremendous levels of revenue already being realized elsewhere in the world -- and everyone seems to get that now, which is encouraging."

Pousti elaborated on SMS.ac's (www.sms.ac) strategy for increasing U.S. consumption of wireless data. "Our mandate is to work with mobile operators and third-party providers to provide anytime, anyplace connectivity to the people and things that are important to businesses and consumers," said Pousti. "Daily registrations to SMS.ac are a true indicator of domestic and international desire for truly wireless, truly interoperable, and easy-to-use communication products. We know from experience that 95% of online activity involves personal communications, so that is where SMS.ac will continue to focus its resources."

SMS.ac (www.sms.ac) is host to the largest mobile community in the world, with more than 6 million registered users in 220 countries as of June 2002.
